257 - BLUE AND WHITE WATER POT WITH LIONS AND FLORAL SCROLLS, KANGXI PERIOD

BLUE AND WHITE WATER POT WITH LIONS AND FLORAL SCROLLS, KANGXI PERIOD Dimensions: Height 6,7 cm Wide 7 cm Depth 7 cm Weight: 165 grams A small blue-and-white water pot with rounded sides and a gently everted rim. Cobalt-blue lions leap among peony blossoms and scrolling foliage, while narrow borders frame the composition. Water pots held water for preparing ink on the Chinese scholar's desk. Their compact proportions invited close inspection of decorative details, and the pairing of lions and peonies conveyed auspicious wishes. The dense yet lively painting gives this Kangxi-period vessel a strong decorative presence despite its modest size.
