A YELLOW JADE ORNAMENT, NORTHEAST CHINA, HONGSHAN CULTURE Dimensions: Height 8,5 cm Wide 8,3 cm Depth 3 cm Weight: 294 grams A yellow-toned carved ornament of compact, almost square outline, its rounded lobes converging around a rectangular central opening. Shallow incised lines accentuate the curved sections, while the softly polished surface shows subtle variations of honey and pale amber colour. The object is worked as an abstract, symmetrical form rather than as a fully naturalistic figure. What is clear is the deliberate interplay of solid and void: the central aperture gives the thick, rounded body a sense of lightness, while the repeated curves create a compact sculptural rhythm.
