(R) TWO JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINTS OF FLOWERS EDO PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY A pair of nineteenth-century Japanese Edo-period woodblock prints devoted to the elegant observation of flowers and seasonal plants. One composition presents chrysanthemums and delicate blossoms in soft colour, while the other combines flowering stems with bamboo and darker monochrome brushwork. The carefully balanced arrangements incorporate calligraphic inscriptions and generous unprinted areas, hallmarks of refined Japanese botanical imagery. The subtle variation between the two sheets creates a pleasing visual dialogue of line, colour and natural form. Woodblock prints of flowering plants are among the most appealing expressions of Japanese printmaking, valued for their graceful composition and intimate connection with seasonal poetry and cultivated taste. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country.
