221 - SMALL BUDDHA AMITHABA BRONZE PALA 12TH CENTURY

Auction ended

SMALL BUDDHA AMITHABA BRONZE PALA 12TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 4 cm Wide 3 cm Depth 1 cm Weight: 24 grams A finely cast Pala-period bronze of Amitabha Buddha dating to the twelfth century, seated in meditation within an elegant arched aureole. The miniature deity rests above a lotus pedestal, with the hands composed before the body and the monastic robes articulated in soft, closely worked folds. Traces of warm gilding enliven the raised surfaces, creating a delicate contrast with the darker bronze patina. Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light, is one of the central figures of Mahayana Buddhist devotion. Although exceptionally small in scale, this bronze retains the complete visual language of an enthroned Buddha and reflects the refined tradition of Indian Pala Buddhist sculpture.
