STANDING BRONZE PARVATI INDIA 14TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 12 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 3 cm Weight: 150 grams A slender standing bronze figure of Parvati, shown frontally with a poised, almost weightless stance. The goddess wears a tall conical crown, large earrings and a long close-fitting garment whose folds are indicated in fine linear patterns down the legs. One hand is raised in a gesture while the other descends elegantly beside the body, the elongated arms and narrow waist giving the figure a refined vertical rhythm. The dark brown surface is softly polished on the projecting areas, with warmer golden tones visible at the feet and lower garment. Parvati occupies a central place in Hindu religious imagery as the consort of Shiva and as a goddess whose identity can range from serene maternal presence to powerful divine energy. In this small bronze the emphasis is on grace rather than force. The elongated proportions, restrained gesture and balanced stance turn the figure into an image of composed femininity, designed to be appreciated at close range. The sculpture's compact scale makes the precision of its silhouette particularly important. Crown, earrings, breasts, narrow waist and flowing lower garment are reduced to their essential forms, yet the figure remains elegant and immediately readable. The separate wooden display base heightens the verticality of the bronze without competing with its understated surface.
