A JUN KILN CUP Dimensions: Height 9 cm Wide 13 cm Depth 13 cm Weight: 403 grams A small cup has an open rounded form and a finely finished circular rim, its interior enlivened by a remarkable interplay of blue, turquoise and purplish-red glaze. The colours flow across the gently curved surface in irregular, cloud-like passages, with darker tones gathering along one side and brighter accents emerging towards the centre. The effect is fluid and atmospheric rather than sharply patterned. Jun-type ceramics are celebrated for the unpredictable optical effects produced by their opalescent glazes, where firing conditions can create richly varied colours and softly merging tonal fields. The cup's principal aesthetic quality is the way its simple shape frames the dramatic, almost painterly movement of the glaze.
