A BRONZE SEATED BUDDHIST BODHISATTVA Dimensions: Height 12 cm Wide 8 cm Depth 5 cm Weight: 800 grams A finely cast bronze bodhisattva seated in a relaxed posture, one leg pendant and supported by a projecting lotus element. The upright torso is richly adorned with necklaces, armlets and a close-fitting lower garment, while a tall tiered crown and long strands of hair frame the composed face. The compact figure is carefully balanced between courtly ornament and meditative restraint. The iconography and seated attitude place the work within the broad Buddhist sculptural traditions of mainland Southeast Asia, where Indian models were repeatedly reinterpreted in local bronze casting. A blue-green patina and areas of encrustation cover much of the surface, lending depth to the finely modeled jewelry and drapery.
