(R) A GINGER JAR, BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN, SOUTH CHINA, SWATOW WARE, LATE MING Dimensions: Height 20 cm Wide 20 cm Depth 20 cm Weight: 1656 grams A late-Ming Chinese blue-and-white porcelain ginger jar from the South Chinese Swatow, or Zhangzhou, ceramic tradition. Its full ovoid body rises to a short neck and is decorated in vibrant cobalt blue with bands of freely painted foliage, stylised blossoms and geometric borders. The energetic brushwork stands out against the pale porcelain ground, while the fitted wooden cover provides a pleasing contrast in material and colour. Swatow export wares were admired across Southeast Asia for their robust forms and lively cobalt decoration. This large ginger jar captures the spontaneous painterly character of late-Ming southern Chinese porcelain and makes a handsome decorative vessel. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country.
