(R) A CHINESE REPUBLIC LANGYAO PORCELAIN VASE (1912-1949) Dimensions: Height 33,5 cm Wide 19 cm Depth 19 cm Weight: 2692 grams A porcelain vase of elegant pear-shaped outline, its full, rounded body rising into a long, gently narrowing neck and an outward-flaring mouth. A luminous crimson glaze covers the vessel, becoming deeper and more brownish towards the foot and revealing a fine network of crackle beneath the glossy surface. The rim catches the light in a thin, brighter line, while the restrained silhouette allows the colour itself to dominate. The rich red surface belongs to the Chinese tradition of oxblood or langyao-type glazes, admired for the unpredictable tonal effects produced in firing. Later potters repeatedly returned to this demanding monochrome aesthetic, in which apparently simple forms provide a setting for subtle variations in depth, texture and lustre. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country.
