LANDSCAPE WITH SCHOLARS IN A MOUNTAIN SETTING , FU BAO SHI (1904-1965) Dimensions: 26,5 cm x 23,5 cm A small framed landscape painting in ink and restrained colour, with rocky slopes, dark trees and a cascading waterfall emerging from a pale, mist-filled setting. Tiny figures are placed among the mountainous forms, allowing the viewer to measure their human scale against the steep terrain. Inscription and red seals occupy part of the picture surface and form a deliberate counterpoint to the freely handled brushwork. The composition belongs to the Chinese landscape tradition in which an encounter with mountains and water becomes a vehicle for reflection. Washes of grey ink suggest atmosphere while sharper strokes articulate branches, rock faces and the course of the water.
