A CHINESE INCENSE BOX Dimensions: Height 2 cm Wide 7 cm Depth 7 cm Weight: 83 grams A small circular Chinese box is fitted with a shallow domed cover decorated in bright red, turquoise, blue, yellow and green. The top centres on a round medallion enclosed by concentric borders and a ring of stylised motifs, while floral and scrolling details continue around the sides. The vivid palette and compact proportions make the object visually striking despite its modest scale. Small lidded boxes were used for a variety of personal and domestic purposes in Chinese material culture, and their decorative schemes often transformed simple utilitarian forms into intimate display objects. Its charm lies in the crisp circular design and the lively contrast of colours across the fitted lid.
