GROUP OF THREE ASIAN BRONZE FIGURES 15TH–19TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 8 to 15 cm Weight: 1669 grams all A varied group of three bronze figures from different Asian traditions: a seated lion, a female deity seated in lalitasana on a lotus base, and a seated Buddha with the hands joined before the chest. Differences in scale, modelling and patination make clear that the three were not originally conceived as a single ensemble. The group brings together imagery from Buddhist and Hindu visual cultures across a broad chronological range. The female deity is shown in the relaxed posture of royal ease, while the Buddha adopts a compact meditative form; the lion provides a striking sculptural counterpoint to the two anthropomorphic images.
