EARLY SEATED BRONZE BUDDHA WITH CONSORTS TIBET 12TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 23 cm Wide 23 cm Depth 14 cm Weight: 5.600 grams A seated Buddha occupies the centre of a carefully organised devotional group, with two smaller kneeling figures placed symmetrically at either side of the throne. The principal figure sits cross-legged in layered robes, one hand lowered and the other raised with the palm turned outward. Animal-like supports flank the central pedestal, while the lower tiers are formed by broad rows of lotus petals. The attendants join their hands in a gesture of reverence. The arrangement gives visual form to the relationship between the enlightened teacher and those who approach him in devotion. Hierarchy is conveyed through scale and posture: the central Buddha rises above the smaller figures, yet the shared base unites the entire composition into one sacred image. The combination of lotus ornament and subsidiary figures lends the object a compact, shrine-like quality. The bronze-coloured surface displays varied green and reddish areas, with the details of the robes and pedestal still clearly visible.
