(R)THREE JAPANESE WOODPRINTS Three Japanese woodblock prints are arranged across two adjoining mounts. One shows a lively gathering with figures and large parasols or umbrellas, while the two smaller sheets juxtapose a solitary standing figure with a busier architectural scene crowded with people. Their delicately coloured passages, fine outlines and differing scales suggest the variety of subjects embraced by Japanese popular print culture. Scenes of everyday activity and entertainment formed an important part of the visual world of the Edo period, recording the gestures, costumes and social settings of urban life. Seen together, these prints move between individual character and communal spectacle, with their light washes of colour preserving the immediacy of the original designs. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country. Proper export documentation is required to waive the VAT
