A SEATED BRONZE JAMBHALA TIBET OR NEPAL 16TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 4 cm Wide 2,5 cm Depth 2 cm Weight: 39 grams A very small seated bronze figure of Jambhala, modelled with a compact body and richly ornamented crown. The deity sits in a frontal pose above an integral base, with the hands and attributes closely gathered around the torso. Despite the miniature scale, the facial features and jewellery are clearly articulated beneath a heavily aged green and brown patina. Jambhala is a Buddhist deity associated with prosperity and abundance, and small bronzes of this kind were suited to intimate devotional use. The dense patination and worn high points emphasise the sculpture's long history of handling and worship.
