A STANDING CHINESE XELLOW JADE FIGURE WESTERN ZHOU PERIOD Dimensions: Height 7 cm Wide 3 cm Depth 1,5 cm Weight: 28,9 grams A small standing Chinese yellow-green jade figure from the Western Zhou period, carved with the compact symmetry and restrained surface treatment of early ritual jade. The stylised personage is presented frontally, with a squared headdress, simplified facial features and arms held closely against the torso. Shallow relief and smoothly polished planes define the long robe-like lower body, allowing the translucency and natural variations of the pale stone to remain visible. Early Chinese jade figures are admired for their powerful abstract shapes and highly concentrated carving. With its archaic profile and softly luminous material, this miniature possesses the distinctive character of ancient Chinese jade art.
