SEATED BRONZE TARA TIBET 12TH CENTURY , PALA DYNASTY Dimensions: Height 7 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 3,7 cm Weight: 170 grams A small bronze Tara seated in lalitasana on a lotus pedestal, one leg pendant while the other remains folded upon the throne. Her lowered right hand forms the gesture of generosity, while the raised left hand supports the stem of a lotus. A tall crown, jewellery and a finely arranged lower garment frame the softly modelled torso and serene face. The sculpture reflects the elegant visual language associated with Pala-period Buddhist metalwork and its profound influence on Himalayan art. Tara, embodiment of compassionate and swift assistance, was among the most important female deities of medieval Buddhism, and portable bronzes such as this carried her imagery across monastic and geographic networks. Despite its modest dimensions, the figure is carefully organised and immediately legible. The deep brown patina and age-related wear soften the fine details without diminishing the graceful proportions of the deity and lotus throne.
