A LARGE SEATED BRONZE BUDDHA TIBET 11TH TO 12TH CENTURY PALA DYNASTY Dimensions: Height 49 cm Wide 40 cm Depth 28 cm Weight: 9.900 grams A substantial seated Buddha rests in a meditative posture upon an elaborate tiered pedestal. The right hand extends down towards the knee in the earth-touching gesture, while the left lies in the lap. The dark figure, with high hair arrangement and long pendant earlobes, contrasts with the richly ornamented base, whose lotus mouldings and rectangular lower register are articulated with small relief figures and animal motifs. In Buddhist iconography, the earth-touching gesture recalls the Buddha's triumph over temptation at the moment of enlightenment. The broad pedestal gives the image an architectural presence, turning the seated figure into the calm centre of a more complex decorative structure. AGE CONFIRMED WITH OXFORD TEST , DEZ. 2025
