SEATED BRONZE INDONESIA JAVA Dimensions: Height 23 cm Wide 17 cm Depth 10 cm Weight: 2558 grams A substantial bronze figure of a four-armed deity seated in a composed, cross-legged posture on a double lotus pedestal. The head inclines gently beneath an elaborate tiered crown; earrings, necklaces and arm ornaments frame the torso. The raised hands hold distinct attributes, while the lower pair rest nearer the lap and knee. Warm brown patination is interspersed with greenish deposits in the recessed details. Multi-armed deities occupy a central place in the Hindu-Buddhist visual culture of Java, where Indian iconographic traditions were adapted into distinctive local sculptural forms. Additional arms express powers and attributes beyond those of an ordinary human figure, while the lotus seat conveys spiritual elevation. The carefully modelled attributes and multi-armed pose enrich the sculpture's visual character. Its carefully ordered silhouette and expressive face give the bronze considerable presence.
