SEATED BRONZE TARA TIBET 15TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 15 cm Wide 10 cm Depth 9 cm Weight: 695 grams A richly ornamented bronze of Tara seated in a graceful posture on a broad double-lotus throne. One leg is folded across the seat while the other extends down over the front of the pedestal. Her lowered hand opens toward the viewer, and the other is raised beside her shoulder. A finely worked crown, large earrings and layered jewellery are enlivened by turquoise- and red-coloured settings, with vivid traces of blue pigment surviving in the headdress. The bronze combines warm brown surfaces with lighter rubbed highlights. Tara is a central female figure in Tibetan Buddhism, revered as an embodiment of active compassion and a swift protector against danger and fear. Her relaxed posture and open gestures communicate accessibility and benevolence, while the lotus throne and elaborate ornaments situate the image within the visual language of Himalayan Buddhist devotion. The sculpture is distinguished by its elegant asymmetry and the vivid interplay of metal, colour and jewel-like details.
