A WHITE GLAZED ANIMAL PORCELAIN FIGURE Dimensions: Height 22 cm Wide 11 cm Depth 24 cm Weight: 2242 grams A vigorously modelled pale-glazed ceramic guardian animal standing with its forelegs planted apart and its head lifted in an open-mouthed snarl. Large eyes, flaring nostrils and prominent teeth give the creature a forceful expression, while ridged fur and tightly curling scrolls articulate the neck, shoulders and flanks. The creamy glaze gathers in the recessed modelling, leaving warmer tones and small darker marks visible across the surface. Fantastic guardian beasts occupy a long place in East Asian decorative and architectural traditions, their exaggerated features conveying vigilance and protective strength. This figure's compact body and sharply animated head create a striking contrast between stability and movement.
