A STANDING BRONZE SCULPTURE CHINA 17TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 33 cm Wide 17 cm Depth 14 cm Weigh: 3484 grams with base A youthful standing figure joins both hands before the chest, the rounded face framed by short, smoothly modelled hair. Long ribbon-like scarves rise in open loops behind the shoulders before descending to either side, their curling ends resting beside the feet. A knotted sash falls from the waist over layered garments, and the figure stands upon a boldly modelled double-lotus pedestal. The surface combines darkened recesses with pale deposits and scattered green patination, giving depth to the flowing contours of the bronze. The joined palms suggest an attitude of veneration familiar throughout Buddhist visual culture, while the lotus pedestal marks the figure's place within a sacred setting. The sculpture's charm lies in the contrast between its compact, solemn gesture and the animated movement of the surrounding ribbons.
