HONG REN (1610–1664) Dimensions: 35 cm x 27 cm A vertical ink landscape in which angular mountain peaks rise above a quiet waterside foreground. The rocky slopes are articulated with fine, dry brush lines and small clusters of trees, while the open spaces between the peaks and the lower shore give the composition an expansive sense of distance. An inscription and red seal appear towards the upper right, set against the pale ground. The present composition likewise relies on spare forms, clear intervals and a disciplined arrangement of mountain and water.
