ZHANG XIONG (1803-1886) Dimensions: 136 cm x 33 cm each A set of four vertical Chinese flower-and-bird paintings, each mounted as a narrow hanging scroll. Blossoming branches, seasonal flowers, birds and insects are arranged against pale grounds with inscriptions placed near the upper portions. The four works vary in palette and subject while maintaining a closely related scale and decorative rhythm. Displayed together, the scrolls create a seasonal sequence in which calligraphy, botanical observation and bird imagery are balanced across four coordinated compositions.
