GLAZED CERAMIC BOWL WITH ISLAMIC INSCRIPTIONS 14TH TO 15TH CENTURY MIDDLE EASTERN A shallow glazed bowl with a broad, slightly uneven rim and a richly patterned interior. Dark calligraphic bands encircle a central circular field, while warm yellow-brown, cream and greenish tones spread across the glazed surface. The ornament is arranged in concentric zones, drawing the eye inward from the inscription-like border to the more densely decorated centre. Calligraphy and geometry play an important role in the decorative traditions of Islamic ceramics, where the written word may function both as text and as an ornamental rhythm. The bowl's appeal lies in the contrast between flowing letterforms, repeated borders and the irregular tonal effects of the glaze.
