The strongly modeled face emerges from a background featuring the motifs of the U.S. flag, giving the piece both a political and decorative dimension. The smiling, almost idealized expression reinforces the emblematic aspect sought by the artist. Signed and numbered, the work presents a number of material alterations - soiling, missing parts, folds, warping and label marks - but these do not affect the legibility of the relief.
