Sèvres National Porcelain Manufactory Beaune Vase, 1905–1906. Made of glazed porcelain, with a slender shape and beveled sides, an elongated neck, and a hexagonal foot, decorated with flowers; marked “Manufacture Nationale décoré à Sèvres 1906” and stamped “S 1905” on the underside Art Nouveau period, H. 19 cm. Designed by Alexandre Sandier, artistic director of the Manufacture from 1897 to 1916, this vase with beveled sides—emblematic of the 1900 style—has featured numerous decorative motifs throughout its history. In the early 20th century, the vase designs created at the Sèvres Manufactory were named after cities, then after rivers from 1918 to 1920. Beginning in 1923, they were named after their creators.
