Massimo (1931–2014) and Lella (1934–2016) VIGNELLI Metafora coffee table in polychrome Carrara marble and glass 1979 120 x 120 cm N.B.: This coffee table was designed in 1979 by Italian designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli. The sphere represents the Earth, the cradle and foundation of humanity, while the square pyramid symbolizes Egyptian civilization, the first social organization. The travertine column evokes the Roman Empire, the zenith of ancient civilization, and is depicted in ruins, reflecting its collapse. The black cube represents the Black Stone of the Kaaba in Mecca, a fundamental element of Islam and a pillar of humanity. *Sold by special order
