Heidi Vollmoeller (1916–2004) was a Swiss art dealer and collector of German descent who was among the pioneers of the international antiquities trade. Her enthusiasm for ancient art was largely sparked by her uncle, the painter Hans Purrmann. In the 1950s, she established herself as one of the few women in the then male-dominated antiquities trade. In Zurich, she ran the Galerie Heidi Vollmoeller, first on Limmatquai, later on Bahnhofstrasse, and finally on Kurhausstrasse. Over several decades, she maintained close relationships with international museums and collectors. More than 70 museums worldwide acquired works from her gallery. Her significant private collection of antiquities was auctioned at Christie’s in London beginning in 2003.
