Bernard CHAROY (1931–2024) "Pin up 41," a project for *Paris Flirt* magazine Mixed media on paper Signed lower right Stamped "PARIS FLIRT No. 65, page 16" Annotated “Pin up 41 Charroy” on a sticker on the back of the frame 66 x 51 cm Framed under glass (Signs of wear, creased paper) Note: Born in 1931 in Nant-le-Grand, in Lorraine, into a family of artisans, Bernard Charoy (1931–2024) began his training in 1955 in Montmartre, where he studied painting and lithography alongside painters and illustrators. In the 1960s, he worked on commission for news agencies and magazines. There he developed the style that would make him famous: sensual, stylized portraits of women. This project for the magazine *Paris Flirt* is a testament to his work as a press illustrator. It follows in the tradition of the illustrated pin-up, as exemplified by the Americans Alberto Vargas and Gil Elvgren, and in France by Aslan and Pierre-Laurent Brenot. Charoy then turned his attention to lithography. His female figures and poetic landscapes have been exhibited since the 1970s in France, Belgium, Germany, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.
