Alexis BRUCHON (born in 1987) "Les préparatifs," 2023 Mixed media on paper Signed lower right Countersigned, titled, dated, and annotated "Joyeux Noël Dupont!" on the back 46 x 34 cm (Minor stains) Description: Born in 1987 and originally from Clermont-Ferrand, Alexis Bruchon studied art history and graphic design in Lyon before devoting himself, as a self-taught artist, to illustration. He works by hand, using India ink and watercolor, in a meticulous and refined style that draws on the legacy of Art Deco, Japonism, and mid-century design, and evokes the graphic elegance of artists such as Georges Barbier and George Lepape. A regular illustrator for the British magazine *House & Garden*, he has also directed two feature films. His work is exhibited in Paris at the Un Jour Une Illustration gallery and in New York at the Philippe Labaune Gallery, which also represents Lorenzo Mattotti, Guy Billout, and Anita Kunz. This piece clearly illustrates his penchant for dreamlike scenes, halfway between memory and fiction.
