Primitif BONO (c. 1880–1955) Portrait of a Child Oil on canvas mounted on a cardboard panel Signed lower left 55 x 38 cm Framed Description: Of Italian origin, Primitif Bono is believed to have been born in Brescia around 1880. He first lived in France, in Cannes and then in Paris, and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in the 1920s. He later settled in Algeria, where his exhibitions in Oran, beginning in 1923, brought him recognition. He traveled throughout southern Algeria and Morocco. A portraitist and landscape painter, he painted scenes of daily life, views of towns and villages, as well as Mediterranean, Corsican, and Provençal landscapes. His work is associated with the Orientalist painting of the first half of the 20th century in North Africa, alongside that of Étienne Dinet, Eugène Deshayes, Maurice Bouviolle, and Jean Launois. This portrait of a child illustrates his work as a portraitist.
