LAMBERT Henriette, 1925–2020 Surfing, 1994 Oil on paper, signed lower left; on the back of the mounting, a label from the Le Troisième œil gallery, Paris 21 x 30.5 cm. Expert: Cabinet MAKET Description: Born in Bordeaux, Henriette Lambert (1925–2020) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in her hometown, then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studios of Jean Dupas and Nicolas Untersteller. In 1953, she was a resident artist at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid. The light and ochre tones of Spain left a lasting mark on her palette, which straddled figuration and abstraction. It was there that she developed the habit of painting in oils on paper during her walks and travels. Her work was exhibited by Albert Loeb, then by the Jacob Gallery; in 1993, she joined the Galerie du Troisième Œil, whose label appears on the back of this work. A friend of the painters Christian Gardair and François Dilasser, she also created illustrations for the poets Jean-Michel Maulpoix and Pascal Riou. The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux dedicated a retrospective to her.
