Jean-Pierre ALAUX (1925–2020) The Fort of Sainte-Marguerite Watercolor on paper Signed lower right, titled on the back 24 x 31 cm Framed ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Born in La Ciotat in 1925 and trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in Jean Dupas’s studio from 1943 to 1949, Jean-Pierre Alaux follows in the tradition of the École de Paris and a dynasty of artists: the son of painter François Alaux, he joined the ranks of his fellow students, such as Paul Ambille, Jean Joyet, Geoffroy Dauvergne, and Maurice Boitel. His work, blending figuration, symbolism, and a dreamlike quality rooted in a pronounced taste for the Baroque and the mysterious, engages with postwar artistic trends while remaining true to a personal aesthetic. A versatile artist—a painter, printmaker, and sculptor—he was among the official artists—appointed an official painter of the Navy—and his works are included in several French public collections.
