Yellowed, with foxing and signs of moisture. The edges are glued (K. de Walterskirchen 145) Subject: 29.7 x 39.2 cm. Visible dimensions: 34 x 43 cm. Expert: Sylvie COLLIGNON Description: A central figure of Fauvism, Maurice de Vlaminck shared a studio in Chatou with André Derain as early as 1900, whom he had met shortly before, and exhibited at the 1905 Salon d’Automne alongside Henri Matisse, in the hall that earned the group the nickname “Fauves” as coined by Louis Vauxcelles. Initially influenced by Van Gogh, he turned to a more muted palette beginning in 1908, under the influence of Cézanne. Settling in 1925 in La Tourillière, in Rueil-la-Gadelière, on the border between Normandy and the Perche region, he painted and engraved the surrounding plains and villages—including Boissy-lès-Perche—until his death in 1958. This print, cataloged by Katalin de Walterskirchen, is part of this series of landscapes, which can be compared to the engravings of his Fauvist colleagues Raoul Dufy, Albert Marquet, and Othon Friesz.
