Gé PELLINI (born in 1966) Rhinoceros Gilded brass and carved black stone, square black stone base Signed on the base Total height: 67 cm. (Normal wear and tear) The buyer is responsible for the resale royalty. Description: A sculptor from Nancy born in 1966, Gé Pellini works directly in marble and bronze, developing a stylized realism that captures an animal’s power through the simplification of its lines. Often associated with minimalism and the “less is more” philosophy attributed to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, he has made a name for himself with his horned animals—first rhinoceroses, then bulls—following in the tradition of animal stylization pioneered by François Pompon. The rhinoceros holds a special place in his work: he sees it as a symbol of human carelessness, a species victimized by human indifference. He works from memory, observing and sketching the animal before allowing time to refine the form. In 2018, his monumental Red Bull, cast by the Vexlard foundry, was installed in Nancy, and since 2022, the Daum crystal glassworks has been producing his Ongava rhinos in crystal paste, as a tribute to the Namibian reserve of the same name. His work is exhibited, among other places, at the Artmundi Gallery on Place des Vosges.
