Buwa SHETE (India, 1960) Composition with Two Figures Oil on canvas Unsigned Dimensions (viewable area) 60 x 60 cm Framed Appraiser: Cabinet PORTIER associés DESCRIPTION Buwa Shete, born in 1960 in Maharashtra, is a contemporary Indian painter who graduated in 1983 with a degree in applied arts from the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya in Pune. He initially worked as an art director and illustrator in advertising agencies while continuing his artistic practice, but turned decisively to painting after gaining recognition when he won an award at the National Exhibition of Young Painters (Kolkata), organized by M. F. Husain. His style is characterized by dreamlike compositions, often centered on themes of the bond between a child and their mother or father, or rural figures, rendered in vivid colors. Among his notable exhibitions are solo shows at the Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai, 1999), the Nehru Centre Art Gallery (Mumbai, 2003), and in Singapore (2002), as well as group exhibitions at the Y.B. Chavan Gallery in Mumbai and the Abita Art Gallery in Delhi. In 1997, he received the London International Award for a calendar titled “Philosophy by Various Saints.”
