Léonard Bernardaud joined as an apprentice and became a partner in 1895; in 1900, the company adopted the name “L. Bernardaud & Cie,” the brand name featured on this set. Focusing on exports from an early stage—particularly to the United States—the manufactory showcased its Art Deco creations at the Paris exhibitions of 1925, 1931, and 1937. Remaining a family-owned business for five generations, the company has since acquired the Vignaud factory and the Ancienne Manufacture Royale. It has collaborated with designers such as Raymond Loewy and, more recently, with artists including Jeff Koons, Joana Vasconcelos, and the Campana brothers. The tableware sets, featuring a simple gold border and characterized by great simplicity, exemplify the tradition of white Limoges porcelain that the company shares with Haviland and Raynaud, other leading names in the city.
