BOULLENGER Silver cutlery set (950/1000) consisting of 18 spoons and 18 forks. In a case. Total net weight: 1,746 g. (Signs of wear) Description: The Boullenger firm, most commonly spelled “Boulenger,” is one of the Parisian silversmiths specializing in cutlery and tableware. Founded in 1810 under the name Hautin, it was taken over in 1864 by Adolphe Boulenger, the founder’s nephew, under the name A. Boulenger & Cie. He established workshops in Créteil in 1869 and 1871. His son, Charles Boulenger, succeeded him in 1898, and the firm became Ch. Boulenger & Cie. As the primary supplier of silverware to the French Navy, the company received awards at the exhibitions in Paris in 1925, Cairo in 1929, and Antwerp in 1930. The name is also linked to that of Odiot, whose hallmark was used by the Boulenger firm between 1906 and 1956. This set of first-grade silver cutlery is part of the firm’s standard production. It belongs to the same tradition as the cutlery sets by Puiforcat, Christofle, Cardeilhac, Tétard Frères, and Henri Soufflot—other leading names in 19th- and 20th-century Parisian silversmithing.
