(Normal scratches and wear) The condition report is available upon request at the following email address: contact@neo-encheres.com Description: Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, the house moved to 1899 Rue de la Paix in 1899, in the heart of the district that was then becoming the world capital of jewelry: Boucheron opened on Place Vendôme as early as 1893, followed by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1906 and Chaumet in 1907, while Mellerio, known as Meller, had long been established on Rue de la Paix. Like its neighbors, Cartier relied on a network of independent workshops: Henri Lavabre, bound to the house by an exclusivity contract as early as 1906; Henri Picq for Belle Époque high jewelry; Verger Frères for toiletries and small objects, Maurice Couet for mystery clocks, and the workshop of Georges Lenfant, a specialist in chains and bracelets, who also worked for Van Cleef & Arpels. The watch movements are supplied by Edmond Jaeger. The Cougar bracelet is part of Cartier’s vast bestiary, dominated since 1914 by the panther—a motif that Jeanne Toussaint, director of fine jewelry from 1933 onward, brought to its zenith. The combination of yellow gold and steel, established by the 1978 Santos, makes this piece a signature of the house’s design in the 1980s.
