CARTIER Paris 18K yellow gold (750/1000) ring, partially set with modern-cut diamonds ranging from 0.01 to 0.05 carats in a grain setting, with a green stone cabochon at the center. Signed on the inside of the band. Gross weight: 7.30 g. Ring size: 57. (Normal wear and tear, scratches) Description: Founded in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, the house established itself in 1899 on Rue de la Paix, just a few steps from Place Vendôme, where Boucheron had set up shop in 1893, Van Cleef & Arpels in 1906, and Chaumet in 1907. This cluster of jewelers made the neighborhood the center of Parisian high jewelry, a circle that also included Mellerio, known as Meller. Behind the Cartier brand name operated a network of independent workshops, including Henri Lavabre, who held an exclusive contract beginning in 1906; Henri Picq, whose hallmark appears on pieces from the Belle Époque; and Georges Lenfant, who also supplied Van Cleef & Arpels. Under the direction of Jeanne Toussaint, beginning in 1933, the house developed a taste for color and generous proportions, where yellow gold interacts with cabochon-cut gemstones. This ring by Cartier Paris, combining yellow gold, a diamond pavé setting, and a green cabochon, embodies the house’s signature style.
