ZOLOTAS Pair of 18K yellow gold (750/1000) clips with small red stones Signed on the inside Total gross weight: 9.95 g. Height: 2 cm. (Signs of wear, scratches) Description: Founded in Athens in 1895 by Efthimios Zolotas, who trained in Parisian workshops, the Zolotas company opened its boutique on Aiolou Street, at the foot of the Acropolis. Under the leadership of his son Xenophon Zolotas, an economist and Prime Minister of Greece, the company dedicated itself to promoting Greek heritage: Mycenaean lions, Byzantine mosaics, and reproductions of ancient jewelry created in collaboration with archaeological museums. After establishing itself in Paris in the early 1970s, the house invited Claude Lalanne, Paloma Picasso, and Takis to create pieces for it. Ilias Lalaounis, Xenophon Zolotas’s nephew, designed the jewelry until 1968 before founding his own brand in 1969; these creations can also be linked to the archaeological aesthetic cultivated by Bulgari.
