Affiche Ancienne Original vintage cartographic promotional poster fold-out brochure advertising Post Office Telephones, Britain's domestic and international telephone network expansion and pricing structure during the interwar period. The brochure provides information on the rules, subscriptions, and discounted pricing tiers for the Prolonged Use of the Inland Trunk Lines and Subscription Calls to the Continent of Europe, a colourful map of Europe with lines radiating from London to major continental capitals and hubs, and a map of the British Isles with concentric lines showing the domestic Trunk Charges from London 7am to 2pm. The reverse features two tables: an Inland Trunk Charges from London Exchanges within 5 miles from Oxford Circus and London Continental Day and Night Charges. The introductory note reads - General Post Office, London, E.C.1 May 1929. A system of long distance communication extending over the British Isles and many countries on the Continent is at the disposal of the Public day and night. For instance, it is possible in the evening hours to telephone to Birmingham for 1/6, to Paris for 3/7, to Amsterdam, Brussels, Geneva for 5/- or less. Anglo-continental telephony reaches Ceuta (Morocco) on the South, Warsaw on the East and the Arctic Circle on the North, and extension is proceeding rapidly. Printed by H.J.R. & L. Ltd. Horizontal.
