"Hayter: The Painter—The Paintings." Published by Gourcuff Gradenigo in 2011. Stanley William Hayter (1901–1988) was not only a universally recognized printmaker but also one of the great painters of the 20th century. A member of the Surrealist group since 1934, he exhibited his paintings alongside the most famous artists and was unanimously recognized and appreciated by all his peers from an early stage. Having moved to the United States during World War II, he is considered one of the founders of the American Abstract Expressionist movement, whose most famous representatives—notably Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning—frequented his studio in New York and were influenced by his work. This book is the first volume to showcase Bill Hayter’s paintings from the 1920s through 1988.
