Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn (1606 Leiden – Amsterdam 1669), *Presentation in the Temple with the Angel*: Small Plate. Etching on laid paper, watermark fragment, probably the Paschal Lamb. (1630). 10.4 x 8 cm (sheet). Bartsch 51; White/Boon 51 II (of II); Hinterding/Rutgers (The New Hollstein) 54 II (of II). Provenance: Martin Folkes (1690–1754), London, with his collector’s stamp on the recto (Lugt 1034); inscribed on the verso in faint pencil: “vente Mariette.” A very fine impression of New Hollstein’s second state, with all the lightly etched details in the upper left quadrant clearly visible; the print shows traces of burr on Simon’s left hand, faint wiping scratches, and inky plate edges. Nowell-Usticke lists the etching as “C 1+” and describes it as “a rather uncommon plate, lightly bitten.” With thread margins in places; otherwise trimmed to the platemark. – Verso shows traces and remnants of a previous mounting. Otherwise in very good condition. Taxation: subject to regular taxation (VAT: Regular Taxation).
