André RIALLE (1924–2005): The Village. Oil on hardboard, signed lower right. (Unframed). Dimensions: 75 x 53 cm. Born in La Voulte-sur-Rhône in 1924, André Rialle lived almost his entire life in Avignon. A student at the city’s School of Fine Arts from 1934 to 1942, he became a craftsman but remained passionate about painting. He was a member of the Candelié group. Influenced by Albert Gleize, his style—which was highly figurative at first—evolved toward Cubism and abstraction, as seen in his later paintings. Toward the end of his career, he developed a highly decorative aesthetic featuring bright, vibrant colors. He died in Avignon in 2005.
