MARIO BUCCELLATI, 1960s “Leafy Branch” brooch in textured 750‰ rose and white gold adorned with two pear-shaped white cultured pearls and a vintage-cut diamond set in a closed setting forming the pistil of a flower; the leaves are engraved using the “segrinato” technique, and the branches are chiseled. 750‰ rose gold pin. Signed “M. BUCCELLATI” on the tip. Made in Italy; hallmarks from the period 1944–1968 (Workshop 15 MI). Pearl dimensions: 8x6.2mm and 10.02x6.4mm. Diamond weight: approximately 0.35 carats. Dimensions: 3.3x2.3cm. Gross weight: 6.9 g. (Diamond sparkle). The House of Buccellati has built its reputation in particular on its mastery of jewelry craftsmanship and, more specifically, on its work with engraving and the textures of precious metals. The “segrinato” technique, in particular, is an engraving method developed by the House as early as the 1930s and 1940s. It involves using a chisel to engrave intersecting and overlapping lines in various directions, giving the finished piece a velvety, silky appearance. It has been used in silverware and jewelry, particularly for naturalistic motifs.
