"VIEW OF MADRID FROM THE TOLEDO SIDE" (1806) Etching and engraving The print depicts the old entrance to Madrid from the Toledo Road, showing the area around the Manzanares River in the foreground with the city's silhouette in the background. The artist who created the original hand-drawn sketch was FRANÇOIS LIGER (1755–1803). The engravers were Claude-François FORTIER (1775–1835), who began the plate by creating the base lines with acid (etching), and LE CERF (1802–1824), who took over to finish the print by hand with a burin. Framed in a black frame with acrylic glass. Dimensions with frame: 42 x 52 cm. This work was part of a limited and numbered facsimile edition (1/250) that brings together the Madrid prints from Alexandre de Laborde’s work. OFFO Publishing, Bibliophilia Division, Madrid.
