Black-stained wooden quarter-hour chiming bracket clock, late 19th century A late 19th-century English quarter-hour chiming ebonized bracket clock The arched case features four finials atop freestanding gilt brass Corinthian columns and side handles, resting on a stepped base and ogee bracket feet. The 8-inch arched brass dial includes twin subsidiary dials for “chime/silent” and “Cambridge Chimes/Chime,” with eight bells striking over a Roman and Arabic numeral dial and a matted center. The substantial triple-chain fusee movement with anchor escapement strikes the hours on a heavy coiled gong and chimes the quarters on a set of nine bells and hammers; the backplate features an engraved running border framing a design of scrolling flowers and leaves.
