Lisboa, 1791 First and only edition, in 12mo, contemporary Portuguese binding, full leather, slightly pressed in the lower corner with some light wear on the covers, spine richly gilt. Text clean and bright. Complete: engraved frontispiece, title, 381 p. Overall very good. With deep Philhellenic feelings, Pereira provided one of the very few descriptions of the Levant in Portuguese, published in Lisbon in the late 18th century. It explores the life of the people in the Levant with particular attention to the civil and military government of the Ottoman Empire. Lengthy description of Constantinople and of the condition of the Greeks under the Ottoman yoke. Pereira believed in the possible rise of a new Greek state. Very rare. References: Blackmer 1285, not in Atabey
